New York Times, Thriller Award winning author, Vincent Zandri recently sat down with The Big Thrill to discuss his latest mystery, MOONLIGHT GETS RAILROADED.

Can you pinpoint a moment or incident that sparked the idea for this book?

My research assistant, Mary Clark, is a decorated retired Colonel in the NYS Troopers. She once told me about one of her first field assignments which was investigating a man who had been placed on the train tracks while drunk and came to just before an Amtrak locomotive obliterated his upper body. Of course, I had to wrap a Moonlight story around that.

A novel is such a major undertaking; there’s the writing of it, of course, then you’re spending months and months revising, polishing, and then promoting it. How did you know this was the book you wanted to spend the next couple of years on?

This is a shorter novel, and it was a ton of fun writing it. That means it only took about three weeks. Again, write what you like to read.

Were there any particular books, movies, or songs that were knocking around in your head while you were writing this one?

Nothing too specific other than those wonderful fast-paced, pulse-pounding pulp thrillers from long ago and the ones being published today by some amazing writers. Who doesn’t like to be thrilled?
