Can you pinpoint a moment or incident that sparked the idea for this book?

I went to Washington, DC once. I thought it was such an exciting place, and I wanted to set a novel there.

When you first created your protagonist for this book, did you see an empty space in crime lit that you wanted to fill? What can you share about the inspiration for that character?

Tarryn Blue is an investigative journalist who feels a moral responsibility to write her stories and keep the public informed. Partnering her with Brock Spencer, an FBI agent, provided the opportunity for them to work together to try to uncover and solve a crime while struggling with their growing feelings for each other. This adds a romantic suspense aspect to the novel. I suppose I find inspiration to write about a journalist because I’m a writer myself.

A novel is such a major undertaking; there’s the writing of it, of course, then you’re spending months and months revising, polishing, and then promoting it. How did you know this was the book you wanted to spend the next couple of years on?

I wanted to explore the dynamic between two people seeking truth and justice who fall in love under extraordinary circumstances. Journalist Tarryn Blue and FBI Agent Brock Spencer, the couple in the novel, were two characters that brought this theme to life, and I kept writing to the end.

Were there any particular books, movies, or songs that were knocking around in your head while you were writing this one?

I thought about novels and movies set in Washington, DC.

In addition to a great read, what do you hope readers will take away from this story?

I hope readers will find inspiration from Tarryn and Brock’s ongoing search for truth and justice.

What can you share about what you’re working on next?

I’m working on a romance novel and a suspense novel.
