R. Barri Flowers recently sat down with The Big Thrill to discuss his latest genre, MISSISSIPPI MANHUNT.

Can you pinpoint a moment or incident that sparked the idea for this book?

Seeing so many prisoners in real life escape gave me the idea for this crime novel, in which the killer is being pursued at the same time that he is pursuing the object of his fixation.

Were there any particular books, movies, or songs that were knocking around in your head while you were writing this one?

The other terrific titles written in this six-book series.

A novel is such a major undertaking; there’s the writing of it, of course, then you’re spending months and months revising, polishing, and then promoting it. How did you know this was the book you wanted to spend the next couple of years on?

It was a great concept for the final title in my six-book romantic suspense thriller miniseries.

When you first created your protagonist for this book, did you see an empty space in crime lit that you wanted to fill? What can you share about the inspiration for that character?

The inspiration for my hero was every correctional law enforcement agent in the country, who is a pro and takes the job seriously in pursuing offenders and protecting us all from.

In addition to a great read, what do you hope readers will take away from this story?

That one mistake can come at a very high price, and that staying one step ahead of a determined killer can be challenging and heart pounding, to say the least.

What can you share about what you’re working on next?

Killer in Shellview County is my next Harlequin Intrigue romantic suspense thriller and Book 1 in the Bureaus of Investigation Mysteries, set to be released in March 2025.
