The Big Thrill Discusses TARGET ACQUIRED with Lynette Eason

Book Cover: TARGET ACQUIREDTough-as-nails Kenzie King has finally earned her place as a tactical medic on a SWAT team. But not everyone on the all-male team accepts her. Rumor is, she didn’t get the position because of what she could do but because of who she knew. Which means she has to work harder and longer than anyone else to prove herself.

Cole Garrison is a man with deep faith who is finally ready to settle down and build a family of his own–if he can find the right person, that is. Kenzie sure has set off his interest meter, but trouble seems to follow in her wake. Since she joined the team, someone has begun to ambush and pick off team members, one by one.

It’s all hands on deck to discover the culprit and end the killing. Can Kenzie and Cole put aside their differences and work together as a team? Or will their budding attraction be snuffed out by a sniper’s bullet?

USA Today bestselling author Lynette Eason recently sat down with The Big Thrill to discuss her latest romantic suspense, TARGET ACQUIRED.

When you first created your protagonist for this book, did you see an empty space in crime lit that you wanted to fill? What can you share about the inspiration for that character?

No, I didn’t see an empty space to fill, I just had a characters that I wanted to write about and hoped that readers would fall in love with them. I can’t say I had inspiration for the characters. Like, there wasn’t a person I based them on or anything. I had the idea for the story and created the characters to fit the story.

Were there any particular books, movies, or songs that were knocking around in your head while you were writing this one?

Probably the television series with Shemar Moore called S.W.A.T. I don’t know that everything on that show was accurate, or course, so I did my research, but I do love the show and watch it faithfully. However, when I’m writing, I’m generally focused on the story and intent on making it a unique read that doesn’t resemble anything else.

A novel is such a major undertaking; there’s the writing of it, of course, then you’re spending months and months revising, polishing, and then promoting it. How did you know this was the book you wanted to spend the next couple of years on?

I write two books a year. I’m contracted and paid advances so I only spend about six months with each book. I just loved the story and knew this was the book I was supposed to write at the time.

In addition to a great read, what do you hope readers will take away from this story?

I hope they take away the fact that one can come from a rotten situation, a terrible past, a bad home life, an abusive situation and realize that the past doesn’t have to define their future. That anyone who is willing to put in the work to survive and move on can do so. It might not be easy, but it’s possible. I want readers to take away hope.

What can you share about what you’re working on next?

I’m working on the third book in the series called Serial Burn. It’s about a State Deputy Fire Marshal and when a serial arsonists targets her, she has to figure out why before he wants her dead.
