New Thrills: ITW Member New Releases for January

If “read more thrillers” is on your New Year’s Resolutions checklist for January, good news—ITW members are killing it—and characters!—in their latest releases. This month, a number of sub-genres are well represented, so whether you’re in the mood to solve a mystery, take a trip abroad, or get lost in a legal thriller, we’ve got you covered.

Two bold mysteries kick things off, with chilling new releases from award-winning screenwriter-turned author Iris Yamashita and critically acclaimed novelist Samuel W. Gailey.

In Yamashita’s thriller debut, CITY UNDER ONE ROOF, a stranded detective tries to solve a murder in a tiny Alaskan town where everyone lives in a single high-rise building. Read more about it—and the author—in this The Big Thrill Q&A.

We head to another rural town in Gailey’s COME AWAY FROM HER. The story revolves around the arrival of Tess, a deaf woman running from her past, who unwittingly sets into motion a chain of disturbing events as she’s forced to share her secrets with the strangers around her. You can pick this thriller up January 10—but while you wait, you can read more about it here.

Under the contemporary thriller banner, we have THE HOUSE IN THE PINES by Ana Reyes. Though it’s a gripping story of a young woman trying to uncover the truth of her past, Reyes says the theme of “home” runs through the narrative. Click here to read more from Reyes’ author interview.

In the mood for a novel of international suspense? Reed Bunzel delivers with GREENWICH MEAN TIME, which New York Times bestselling author Steve Berry calls “a rollicking good time of thrills and skills.” Spanning 10 time zones, nine countries, and four continents, GREENWICH MEAN TIME is a tightly spun thriller that plays out against a violent plot designed to change the course of history forever. Get the full scoop on it in this Q&A with the author.

If adventure’s more to your liking, consider Vaughn C. Hardacker’s upcoming January release, RIPPED OFF. In it, Hardacker’s seventh published book, he had to utilize his experience in the Southeast Asia rainforest to tell the most authentic story. Find out what surprising research he uncovered in this author Q&A.

Paul Levine brings us his latest legal thriller in EARLY GRAVE. It’s the “15th and final novel in the series that began with the international bestseller To Speak for the Dead in 1990.” Levine shares more about the book and how he’s carried the series for 15 installments in this The Big Thrill author Q&A.

Looking for a clean, fast-paced romantic suspense novel to kick off the year? Check out the third instalment of Lynette Eason’s Extreme Measures series, CRITICAL THREAT, which hits shelves January 3. The series follows FBI Special Agent Grace Billingsley, who has a knack for tracking serial killers using her skills as a psychiatrist and behavioral analyst. Eason talks more about who Billingsley is tracking this time, as well as what draws her to writing romantic suspense in this author Q&A.

And Elissa Grossell Dickey brings us a new domestic thriller with IRIS IN THE DARK, a harrowing story about a mother who must face her worst fear. Dickey says the setting for this novel—the South Dakota prairies—is almost a character in itself, and she used it to punctuate Iris’s chilling experiences. Why South Dakota? The answer to this question and more in this The Big Thrill author Q&A.
