Far From Home (Home Series Book Two) by C. Derick Miller
A Power Beyond Belief…
A Girl Far From Home…
Katie Liberman is your typical 18-year-old college student…or at least that’s what her family thinks. Picking up five years after the events of A Taste of Home, Katie has dropped out of school and embarked upon a dangerous quest to find Kurt Jimmerson, the New York City attorney responsible for her family’s werewolf curse. Unknown to her, the attorney’s grip on the ‘City That Never Sleeps’ is tighter than imagined and she’ll need any and all help available to be victorious.
But…where do you find friends when you’re Far From Home?
Author and seasoned paranormal investigator C. Derick Miller discussed his latest horror novel, FAR FROM HOME, with The Big Thrill:
How does this book make a contribution to the genre?
It adds levels of power bestowed on werewolves depending on how you are infected. Birth born, bite born, or legacy (willingly bitten).
Was there anything new you discovered, or that surprised you, as you wrote this book?
The book takes place in New York City and I’d never been there. I took a job traveling there 45 times in 4 years to get the feel for the place. You can’t get that from Google!
What do you hope readers will take away from this book?
I want readers to understand that sometimes horror can be heroic. What some people consider to be dark and frightening is viewed as light and welcomed by others. It’s a point of view.
No spoilers, but what can you tell us about your book that we won’t find in the jacket copy or the PR material?
There is no thirteenth chapter. I figured it was bad luck. I got the idea from a hotel elevator when I realized there was no thirteenth floor. The first book in this series was that way as well but I never explained it.
What authors or books have influenced your career as a writer, and why?
The Language of Fear by Del James. He wrote the short story “Without You.” The Guns N Roses “November Rain” music video is based on this story. He captured the potential hidden horrors of Hollywood in these short stories and it resonated with me. I woke up the next morning after reading it and wrote my first short story. I contacted him years later and told him what he’d done to me. Del James wrote the intro to my novel Diary of a Gonzo Ghost Hunter. Great guy!
