The Big Thrill Recommends: SANCTUARY by Holly S. Roberts

Recommended by Tracey Devlyn

SANCTUARY by bestselling author Holly S. Roberts is the second book in her wildlife thriller series, and it explores a hurricane-induced game of predator vs. prey on a remote island.

Book Cover: SANCTUARY Stolen from her home, 15-year-old Misty finds herself thrust into a school for disobedient girls after she refuses to marry an elderly pastor at her family’s church.

The loneliness, the abusive schoolmistresses, and the looming threat that she’ll be forced to marry against her will nearly overwhelm her—until she meets Paige and Sarah. The trio hatch a dangerous plan to escape their captors during an impending hurricane.

Not far away, on an island off the coast of Florida, Simon leads a simple life of caring for orphaned big cats on Savage Sanctuary. He, too, must navigate an abusive overseer—whose only interest is in how much money he can squeeze from tourists—and hunters in search of more exotic game.

A hurricane brings Simon and the girls together. The band of new friends fight to survive the fierce hurricane and save the cats from a pair of hunters whose interests include more than hunting four-legged wild animals.

A quick read, SANCTUARY was equal parts disturbing and inspiring. Roberts dives deep into the perils of emotional and physical abuse. But the girls’ friendship, Simon’s love for the cats, and the group’s uncompromising determination to protect each other have a balancing effect.
