Book Cover: A POISONOUS PALATEKey West, Florida, is a vacation paradise for thousands of tourists from all over the world. But for Hayley Snow, her police detective husband, Nathan, and their elderly neighbor, affectionately known as Miss Gloria, it’s simply home.

Officially, Hayley is the food critic for a local magazine, which gives her access to the many fine dining opportunities in the area. Unofficially (and often unintentionally), Hayley is building an impressive reputation for herself as a successful sleuth. Please understand, Haley doesn’t go looking for danger, mayhem, and murder. She’s merely a curious person who finds herself in mysterious situations involving a dead body (or two) with alarming regularity.

Case in point is an email that lands in Haley’s inbox one morning from an address she doesn’t recognize. She’s all set to permanently delete it until she reads the subject line: “Hemingway’s toxic love and an old story.” Intrigued, she reads the entire email from Catherine Davitt, a writer who’s in Key West researching an article about Ernest Hemingway’s toxic marital relationships. Catherine explains that, back in the late 1970s, she and her friend Veronica were part of a rowdy group that camped in Big Pine Key for several weeks. Suddenly, Veronica vanished, and the sheriff shut the camp down. Catherine is hoping Hayley will help her discover what happened to Veronica.

Hayley agrees to drive Catherine to Big Pine Key and question any residents who were around at the time of the girl’s disappearance. They’re directed by a waitress at a local watering hole to check with the owner of a seedy motel, but when the two women arrive, they find him stabbed to death. Then Catherine disappears, and Hayley realizes there must be a connection between the two disappearances.

A POISONOUS PALATE is a humdinger of a mystery that will keep readers guessing until the surprising and satisfying conclusion. I loved it!
