Award-winning criminologist and bestselling author R. Barri Flowers recently sat down with The Big Thrill to discuss his latest short story collection, MYSTERIES OF GOLFTON HILLS.

Can you pinpoint a moment or incident that sparked the idea for this book?

As a crime novelist primarily, I was intrigued at the prospect of being able to write multiple storylines in one book that includes sixteen gripping mystery tales.

Were there any particular books, movies, or songs that were knocking around in your head while you were writing this one?

Having edited three collections of stories previously with different terrific authors, this helped inspire me to want to write a single author collection of mystery shorts.

A novel is such a major undertaking; there’s the writing of it, of course, then you’re spending months and months revising, polishing, and then promoting it. How did you know this was the book you wanted to spend the next couple of years on?

I got the fever for wanting to write this collection of mystery, suspense, and thriller shorts, believing it was the right time to dive into this undertaking.

In addition to a great read, what do you hope readers will take away from this story?

The fact that the short story is still alive and worth diving into, even with long form novels as an alternative. I also want readers to enjoy the many avenues, plots, and conclusions that are presented in this sixteen-story riveting collection of tales.

What can you share about what you’re working on next?

Campus Killer (The Lynleys of Law Enforcement Book 5) from Harlequin Intrigue, is a romantic suspense thriller by R. Barri Flowers.
