Crime Fiction THE FALL with D.E. White
The Big Thrill Discusses THE FALL with D.E. White
Detective Dove Milson is on the final stretch of a long drive back from Cornwall. She’s tuning the radio when her fiancé swears next to her. She follows his gaze up to the bridge spanning the motorway.
Something is falling from the bridge.
Someone is falling.
No, not one person.
Three people plunge to the tarmac below. Two women and a man.
Dove is immediately caught up in the investigation into this horrifying event. But what led three people with no apparent connection to jump together?
Was it a suicide pact?
An accident?
Murder?
Now Dove must find out what happened — before anyone else is pushed over the edge.
Amazon bestselling author, D.E. White recently sat down with The Big Thrill to discuss her latest crime fiction, THE FALL.
When you first created your protagonist for this book, did you see an empty space in crime lit that you wanted to fill? What can you share about the inspiration for that character?
Detective Dove Milson is a police source handler, so a profession that requires getting very close to the criminal gangs, but having to stay on the right side of the law. How would you deal with a situation where it all goes wrong and how far do you go to bring criminals to justice? I really liked that Dove had to live with those questions on a daily basis.
Can you pinpoint a moment or incident that sparked the idea for this book?
Driving under the huge motorway bridges spanning a coast road near my home
A novel is such a major undertaking; there’s the writing of it, of course, then you’re spending months and months revising, polishing, and then promoting it. How did you know this was the book you wanted to spend the next couple of years on?
I have quite tight deadlines, so it was more a case of 4 months! But I get involved in the character feelings and dialogue and then I know it’s going somewhere.
Were there any particular books, movies, or songs that were knocking around in your head while you were writing this one?
Anything by Ava Max
In addition to a great read, what do you hope readers will take away from this story?
I really hope they love Dove and Quinn and look forward to book 6!
What can you share about what you’re working on next?
Another standalone, and a thriller verging on domestic noir.
