Diane Jeffrey recently spent some time with The Big Thrill discussing her latest thriller, THE OTHER COUPLE.

Can you pinpoint a moment or incident that sparked the idea for this book?
I knew that I wanted to write a novel about a character who resorted to revenge when getting justice was not an option. I wanted to write a cat-and-mouse story between two women, who end up with more in common than they would like to admit.

A novel is such a major undertaking; there’s the writing of it, of course, then you’re spending months and months revising, polishing, and then promoting it. How did you know this was the book you wanted to spend the next couple of years on?
It took me one year to write. I absolutely loved writing it because I loved the characters I created and wanted to spend time with them.

I’ve just abandoned the work I was doing on my seventh novel, after four months, although I don’t think there’s anything fundamentally wrong with it, but I was finding it a chore. Usually, writing is both a pleasure and a necessity, and I wasn’t in love with my manuscript. I may go back to it one day, but I want to write something else first – something that I enjoy writing.

In addition to a great read, what do you hope readers will take away from this story?
I hope my readers will remember the characters when they’ve finished this book. I also hope they might look up my backlist!

What can you share about what you’re working on next?
I’m about to start work on my seventh psychological thriller. It will also be set in England and will have two time frames.
