The final days of the American presence in Afghanistan bring Adam Hayes a summons he can’t ignore in the latest electrifying thriller from the world of Robert Ludlum.

Adam Hayes has stepped away from the field for the last time. He’s promised his wife that he won’t put his life on the line any more, and there’s nothing that will make him break a promise to his wife.

Well…almost nothing. With America withdrawing from Afghanistan and the Taliban closing in, Abdul Nassir reached out to his old friend. Ten years ago, he saved the American’s life, and the time has come for repayment. The Afghan is desperate to flee his homeland. Like most of his countrymen, he is petrified by the Taliban takeover, but he also can’t trust the Americans. He’s the only eyewitness to a massacre committed by a rogue team of CIA contractors. Not only can he identify the butcher who directed the bloodbath, he also has photographic proof. He’ll only be safe when those pictures are made public.

Now, there’s just one man he can trust to get him to safety–Adam Hayes.

Joshua Hood

The final days of the American presence in Afghanistan bring Adam Hayes a summons he can’t ignore in the latest electrifying thriller from the world of Robert Ludlum. ROBERT LUDLUM’S THE TREADSTONE RENDITION is the fourth entry to acclaimed thriller writer Joshua Hood’s electrifying series inspired by late bestselling author Robert Ludlum’s Bourne universe. Longtime franchise devotees will be pleased to find this latest installment brims with the same high-stakes action and edge-of-your-seat suspense that set Ludlum apart from his peers, thanks in no small part to Hood, whose years of experience as a decorated combat veteran shines on every page.

With THE TREADSTONE RENDITION, Hood once again proves he is uniquely suited to build on and expand the brilliant legacy of Robert Ludlum, whose books have sold hundreds of millions of copies around the world and spawned some of the most successful action movies of all time.

TheBigThrill had a chance to catch up with Joshua and learn more about THE TREADSTONE RENDITION:

What do you hope readers will take away from this book?

Like most soldiers who served in Afghanistan, I was caught off guard by the fall of Kabul in 2021 and my hope is that the Treadstone Transgression will shed some light on the complexity and cost of war.  Out of all the books I have written, this one is the most personal and I wanted to bring out the relationships forged between the soldiers and our Afghan allies.

How does this book make a contribution to the genre?

I think it expands the Ludlum Universe by bringing Adam Hayes back to his roots.

Without spoilers, are there any genre conventions you wanted to upend or challenge with this book?

In Thrillers most protagonists are working for the US government in some kind of official capacity and therefore they are allowed to do “bad things for a good purpose.”  Adam Hayes on the other hand is an outsider and in the Treadstone Rendition he is working against the geopolitical aims of the US government, so the idea of code over country comes into play.
