Sundown by Susan May Warren
Former Delta Operative Colt Kingston knows when someone is lying. He may not know the truth, but he sure doesn’t trust Tae, the woman who is caring for his ailing father at Sky King Ranch. Behind those beautiful blue eyes, he can tell there is a troubled—and smart—woman.
A few of her stories prove true—he’s found the crashed plane and the dead body inside. Still, her story of survival seems too incredible to believe . . . until the thugs she claims to be hunting her show up and threaten Sky King Ranch. Now Tae must disappear, along with her secrets.
But Colt’s not about to let her go it alone. And when they discover that her secrets include the antidote to a plague that threatens the world, it’ll take all three Kingston brothers to save the country they’ve vowed to protect.
Susan May Warren brings her Sky King Ranch series to a climactic close with this high-stakes race against the clock.
USA Today bestselling author Susan May Warren recently spent some time with The Big Thrill discussing her latest novel, SUNDOWN.
What do you hope readers will take away from this book?
I hope readers love this story! Love the epic adventure, fall in love with Colt and Tae, and dive into a chilling plot that could very well be taken from today’s headlines. It’s also a powerful story about second chances and rising to the challenges of knowing it’s up to you to save thousands…maybe even your country and beyond.
How does this book make a contribution to the genre?
From the first page, Sundown is full of high-octane danger, high stakes and a real life, terrifying plot.
Was there anything new you discovered or that surprised you as you wrote this book?
Did you know that most adults today, born after 1970 are NOT vaccinated for smallpox? It was considered eradicated in 1979, with the last naturally infected case in 1977. However, America still holds the original virus at the CDC if they need to create more vaccination (which by the way, is not made from the smallpox vaccine, but a variation of cow pox). Horrifyingly, the OTHER country to hold the original virus is…Russia.
No spoilers, but what can you tell us about your book that we won’t find in the jacket copy or the PR material?
It’s easier to sneak something terrible (read: bomb) into one of the nation’s most favorite vacation places than you’d think…
What authors or books have influenced your career as a writer, and why? For suspense?
Harlan Coben, for sure—you just can’t guess his plots. And for epic adventure and military suspense, Jack Carr. Love his Terminal List. Huge fan of Lee Child’s Reacher, too, for the development of a long-standing character.
