Driven by a traumatic event in her past, Dr. Ivy Collins is on the precipice of a scientific breakthrough after years of research and sleepless nights when dangerous circumstances demand that she give it all up—to save someone else. Can US Secret Service Agent Gil Dixon work with her to help save her work—and her life?

Lynn H. Blackburn recently spent some time with The Big Thrill discussing her latest thriller, MALICIOUS INTENT:

Was there anything new you discovered, or that surprised you, as you wrote this book?

I had never heard of ransomware before I started the research for MALICIOUS INTENT. I was amazed by the number of cases in the US each year. And I was impressed by the way the FBI and Secret Service work together to fight ransomware cases in the US.

Which took shape first: plot, character, or setting?

For MALICIOUS INTENT, the characters came first. I had introduced both the hero and heroine in the first book of the series, Unknown Threat, and I knew that their relationship was complex, and their backstory was heartbreaking. I knew they had years of friendship to build on, but they would both have to forgive and move on in order to do it. From there, I wrote the story that enabled all of that to happen.

What attracts you to this book’s genre?

I grew up reading political thrillers and romance novels, so writing romantic suspense came naturally to me. I’m a romantic at heart. I love stories where a couple overcomes obstacles and finds true love. But I find a lot of contemporary romance to be boring. I need danger and intrigue! I want to see couples discovering each other as they fight for justice or to save the world from destruction. So I write the kinds of books I enjoy reading, and I hope others enjoy them as well.
