Bombshell by Catherine Coulter
By Brian Knight
NEW YORK TIMES Bestselling author Catherine Coulter’s new novel, BOMBSHELL, is out from G.P. Putnam’s Sons, and Catherine has stopped by to talk to us about it!
Thanks for stopping by, Catherine. Tell us a bit about your new release.
BOMBSHELL is the 17th — count them! — thriller in my FBI series. Do you remember Special Agent Griffin Hammersmith, first seen in BACKFIRE? He’s back. Savich recruited him to join his unit, the CAU, in Washington. There was something about Griffin, something almost preternatural in his ability to track criminals, to think like them.
On his way to D.C. Griffin plans to stop in Maestro, Virginia, to visit his sister, Delsey, a student at Stanislaus School of Music. Before he arrives, he is told Delsey has been found naked and unconscious, lying in a pool of blood — good luck for Delsey, the blood isn’t hers.
Meanwhile, back in D.C., FBI Agents Savich and Sherlock face the grim business of tracking the killer who brutally murdered the grandson of the former Federal Reserve Bank chairman. Was the young man’s murder an act of revenge against the grandfather for the banking crisis? Or was it because of something more insidious and personal? Like all my FBI thrillers, BOMBSHELL has two mysteries. I promise you, BOMBSHELL will knock your socks off, one mystery per sock.
After 17 novels in your FBI Thriller series, what is it about those stories that keeps you interested enough to keep writing them.
It’s not the stories, it’s the characters. Savich and Sherlock (and Sean) are a part of my daily life. Even though I’m the one who puts them in dire situations that stretch their brains and let them strut their stuff, they’re the ones who drive the bus and decide where and how the mysteries will resolve themselves (usually). Sometimes I do stick in my big foot and give them a hint or two. They’re family. You can’t pick your family, now can you?
Thanks for taking time from your busy schedule to visit with us, Catherine. Best of luck with BOMBSHELL!
