Barbara Levenson has spent much of her life in the criminal justice building in Miami, Florida. She began her legal career as a prosecutor. Later she headed her own law office handling criminal defense cases, and she was elected to serve a a judge in Miami-Dade County. She recently retired as a senior judge.

Barbara has lived in Miami for 37 years and now spends summers in Quechee, Vermont. She and her husband bred and showed German Shepherd dogs and finished eleven champions in the show ring. The shepherd, Sam, in the Mary Magruder Katz mystery series is based on the mischievous dogs that live with the Levensons.
